Calgary Stampede

Yippie Kie Yay Mother Fuckers!!! (Another SuperTroopers quote)!!!

Today was Stampede day, which was an optional exptra but it's not very often that Contiki comes to the Stampede so why not go??

So we had a bit of a sleep in and then headed into the city on the train. The Stampede is kind of like the Royal Show with the rides, food stalls, animals, etc and a bit messy like the Nullarbor Muster and a BnS. We paid $170 to go which included all day entry, a rodeo and a chuckwagons/fireworks event as well as a few freebies.

In the morning we wandered around and checked out some animals. I saw a minitaure donkey and a minitaure pony which was cute. Then the giant horses. We tried to watch the finals for the World Champion Horse show maker thing but I was too hungry.

The rodeo after lunch was awesome. Lots of horse riding, bull riding, barrel races and kids events. Lots of very hot cowboys for sure ;) We also got some freebies with our entry - a tote bag which is a nice and big and a free polo shirt which I hope dad likes :) And fits into!

Then Katharina, the German girl, and I went wandering the park. We went on the skyride which is like the chair lift, which was free so no complaints. We also went on a ride called Twin Spin and I almost vomited after that. One minute you're going left, next you're going right, then you're facing the ground, then the sky - at a full speed!!! When we calmed down we went on a less thrilling ride but still pretty cool.

More wandering around and eating some overpriced fatty food, which didn't agree with my guts by the end of the night! We headed back into the grandstand to watch the Chuckwagon races which were boring and confusing. Then we snuck off with the tour manager to see the Barenaked Ladies play!!! They were aweosme, but the lead singer quit a few years ago and the guitarist replaced him!

Back to the grandstand for the night show which was awesome. We walked in and there were motorbiks hanging from wires, doing jumps and going in the dome. Lots of firewoorks too which made up for the shitty Canada Day ones.

Then we raced for the train home and passed out, with a gut ache! I had such a great day though. I'd loved to have seen more and do more but it was already an expensive day out. A few people headed back to Ranchmans afterwards, it seems that place never closes, but we had an earlyu start today.

(Yes, my tense changes heaps - but shut up :P)
